Solar de Samaniego Winery + Laguardia Tour:  Friday 24, at Laguardia. Álava.

Solar de Samaniego winery.

“With more than half a century of history, Bodegas Solar de Samaniego has become an enotouristic space for wine and literature.”

Located in the historic medieval town of Laguardia, Bodegas Solar de Samaniego has recovered and reinterpreted its typical industrial architecture of the 70s through the project Beber Entre Líneas, which fuses the cultures of wine and literature and appears from its historical relationship with the fabulist Félix María de Samaniego and his farm La Escobosa.

The visit to its facilities allows you to make a journey between vineyards and words and discover the Shop-Bookshop, designed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán; the Farms Room, a space for tasting and conversation; the Sala Fábulas & Barricas, where the fables of Samaniego are projected, and the spectacular Espacio Medio Millón, turned into the Cathedral of the Wine after the artistic intervention of the muralist Guido van Helten on the old deposits.

A bus will pick up the assistants close to the AC hotel (17:15 h) and then at Fuente de Murrieta  (17:25 h) and transfer them to the Solar de Samaniego winery. The visit starts at 18:00 h.

 Medieval village of Laguardia tour.

On June 23, the patron saint festivities are held in honour of St. San Juan in Laguardia. The opening ceremony of the Fiestas of Laguardia takes place every year in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento at 1:00 p.m. After the bells ring, the chupinazo explodes to the sound of bagpipes and dulzainas. Since then, and for seven days, Laguardia has become a hive of people from different parts of Spain. They crowd its narrow streets, bars, and wineries, turning the occasion into one of the most populous festive events in Rioja Alavesa.

On Friday 24, after visiting Solar de Samaniego winery, we are visiting the beautiful medieval village of Laguardia.

During the visit around Laguardia, you can discover every corner of the town and discover its origins, culture, food and drink, and local traditions.

We will visit all the places of interest in the town, highlights among which include the church of Santa María de los Reyes with its polychrome gothic doorway, the Celtiberian pond from the 1st century BC, the 12th-13th century Abbot´s Tower with stunning views of Laguardia and the vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, the 17th-century Palace and the church of San Juan.

Finally, we’ll arrange a visit to Laguardia´s rock-cut wine cellars, finishing our visit by tasting a fine Rioja Alavesa wine and some tapas.
